Brand Strategy for Physical Environments

Aligning Category Performance with  Sensory Experience

I help brands improve performance across retail, trade fairs, and branded environments by connecting category management with structured sensory strategy - delivering measurable commercial impact.

Define the Structure. Shape the Perception. Drive Commercial Impact

When category strategy and physical experience operate separately

Category Management defines structure.

Design and Sensory Execution shape perception.

When developed in isolation, physical environments lose clarity, value signals weaken, and commercial potential is diluted.

This is not an aesthetic issue -
it is a structural one.

Addressing this disconnect requires more than design refinement or assortment optimisation. It requires a clear strategic framework.

Anker 1

A deliberate system that translates commercial intent into coherent physical expression - ensuring strategy, perception, and performance reinforce one another.

1. Category Strategy

(Commercial Foundation)

Defines how a category is structured to win across channels:

  • Assortment hierarchy and role clarity

  • SKU prioritization and margin logic

  • Price positioning and value tiers

  • Channel-specific Go-To-Market logic

  • Perfect Store principles and KPI focus

This layer clarifies what the brand must communicate in physical space.

2. Sensory Expression

(Perceptual Execution Layer)

Translates commercial priorities into spatial and sensory experience:

  • Spatial hierarchy reflecting category roles

  • Environmental cues reinforcing value positioning

  • Materiality and visual rhythm supporting brand intent

  • Aroma strategy as perceptual reinforcement

  • Experience adapted to channel context

This layer determines how value is perceived.

3. Commercial Performance

(Outcome Layer)

Ensures that physical presence supports measurable results:

  • Improved shopper orientation

  • Stringer price perception

  • Clearer brand differentiation

  • Consistency across retail, trade fairs, and branded environments

  • Physical execution contributing to KPI performance

This is where intent becomes impact.

Ways to Work Together

The Framework can be applied in different formats - depending on the strategic scope and level of collaboration required.

My work is grounded in over a decade of international commercial experience across Category Management, Consumer Goods, and the global Fragrance industry.

I have operated in both regional and global roles — including Category Development at Haleon (DACH), Key Account Management at Givaudan, and Category Management at Reckitt — shaping a deep understanding of commercial architecture, Go-To-Market logic, and shopper-driven execution.

Academically, I hold an M.Sc. in Consumer Affairs from the Technical University of Munich, an Advanced Certificate in Sensory Marketing & Consumer Behaviour, and a Mini MBA in Deep Human Understanding (Executive Education, UCL School of Management).
